Audi plans to revive the TT coupe sports car
Audi is considering bringing back a new TT sports coupe. CEO Gernot Döllner is eager to revive the brand’s presence in the sports car market. This comes after the company discontinued the TT in 2023 and the R8 in 2024, leaving Audi without any sports cars for the first time in many years. During a recent financial presentation, Döllner confirmed that a new sports model is on the table. He stated, "That's part of the brand's DNA," and emphasized the need to find the right timing for its introduction. Despite recent layoffs of 7,500 employees planned by the end of the decade, Döllner sees sports cars as crucial to Audi's future. The brand’s new design chief, Massimo Frascella, has a personal connection to the original TT. He admired the car at a dealership when it first launched. Döllner highlighted Frascella's long-standing connection to Audi and expressed confidence in showcasing Frascella's vision for the brand. However, Döllner noted that any new sports car would not be launched until Audi strengthens its main product lineup. The company has faced challenges like slow electric vehicle demand and software development issues. Audi is updating its lineup with new models, such as the A5, new gas and electric A6s, and the Q6 E-Tron. Audi has a rich history of innovative sporty cars. Models like the original Quattro, the TT, and the R8 helped define the brand and establish it as a leader in technology and design. Döllner believes it is important for Audi to demonstrate its relevance in the automotive world.
