Aurora police shot and killed a person who allegedly displayed a weapon after a vehicle chase early Wednesday morning. The incident took place on the East Side of Aurora. Police responded around 1:30 a.m. to help locate a suspect in an aggravated battery case involving a Geneva police officer. Officers identified the vehicle and attempted to pull it over. However, the driver did not stop, leading to a chase. The chase ended on Route 25 when officers used stop sticks to halt the vehicle. As officers approached, the driver showed a weapon. In response, two Aurora police officers fired their guns, hitting the driver. Emergency responders took the individual to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after. His identity has not been released yet. An investigation is now being conducted by the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force. Both officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard after such incidents. The task force will review the incident and report to Kane County State's Attorney Jamie Mosser, who will decide if the officers’ actions were justified. This process is expected to take several months. Notably, none of the Aurora police will participate in the investigation.
