Aussie fisherman catches rare green sawfish in Darwin

An Australian fisherman caught a rare green sawfish while fishing in the Northern Territory. Alex Mulligan was trying to catch stingrays in Darwin when he unexpectedly hooked the sawfish. This type of sawfish is extremely rare, with estimates suggesting there are only between 200 and 5,000 left in the world. Alex, who has been fishing in the area for nearly 13 years, said it was the first time he had ever seen or caught one. When he realized what he had caught, Alex felt ecstatic. He described the moment as "indescribable" when he saw the sawfish's distinctive nose appear above the water. Alex quickly removed the hook and released the fish back into the water. He was careful and concerned for its well-being, knowing how endangered the species is. He handled the sawfish gently, wanting to minimize the time it spent out of the water.
