Austin FC defeats San Diego FC, handing first loss

Austin FC defeated San Diego FC 2-1 at Q2 Stadium, handing the expansion team its first loss of the season. The match took place on Sunday. Brandon Vázquez opened the scoring for Austin with a goal in the 10th minute. This was his first goal of the season with Austin FC. Vázquez previously scored most of his goals with FC Cincinnati. Jon Gallagher doubled the lead for Austin just nine minutes later, scoring in the 19th minute. San Diego FC fought back in the 27th minute as Luca de la Torre scored his first career goal. He was assisted by Onni Valakari, who also made his first assist in this match. Austin's goalkeeper, Brad Stuver, made three saves to help secure the victory. San Diego's CJ dos Santos also had three saves but allowed two goals in this match. Austin FC moves to play against St. Louis City next week, while San Diego will host Los Angeles FC.
