Austin Gomber returns with mixed results for Rockies

Austin Gomber returned to the mound for the Rockies after dealing with shoulder soreness. In his first Cactus League game, he gave up three runs and five hits in 3 2/3 innings. In another game, the Rockies defeated the White Sox 10-4. Starting pitcher Kyle Freeland, set to be the team's opening day starter, allowed three runs on five hits, including a home run. He struck out eight batters but ended spring training with a 6.16 ERA. The Rockies also played against the Cubs, winning 7-3. Gomber pitched again, giving up three runs and two home runs. He did strike out two batters. Bradley Blalock shined in relief, throwing two scoreless innings and collecting five strikeouts with a 1.08 ERA this spring. At the plate, outfielder Jordan Beck continued to impress, hitting his fourth home run and driving in three runs. Hunter Goodman, Sam Hilliard, and Michael Toglia all added homers for Colorado. Goodman is having an outstanding spring, hitting .463 with a 1.316 OPS. The Rockies' next game is against the Brewers on Sunday afternoon. Several pitchers are expected to take the mound, including Chase Dollander and Zach Agnos.
