A man who was shot during an attempted robbery in Austin has died. Isiah Matthews, 58, passed away on March 12 due to complications from his gunshot wound. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed his death. Matthews was shot on February 18 while trying to help a 68-year-old woman. She was walking when a gunman approached her and demanded her belongings. During the robbery, a 38-year-old man intervened, leading to a struggle with the robber. Matthews was shot in the leg during this confrontation. After the shooting, Matthews was taken to Stroger Hospital and later moved to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park. Police are still investigating the incident.
