Australia invests billions to expand nuclear submarine shipyard in Western Australia

Australia will invest billions over the next 20 years to expand a shipyard in Western Australia. This facility will serve as the maintenance hub for its nuclear-powered AUKUS submarine fleet. An initial investment of A$127 million ($85 million) will upgrade the Henderson shipyard. The facility will also produce new landing craft and frigates, supporting local job creation and the shipbuilding industry. Under the AUKUS pact, Australia plans to acquire up to five nuclear-powered submarines from the U.S. by the early 2030s and will collaborate with Britain on a new class of submarines.
