Australia to reduce medicine costs for 20 million citizens
Independent senator David Pocock announced he will no longer receive funding from Climate 200 for his election campaign. Pocock received almost $650,000 in cash and additional support during the 2022 election. He says he is now well-established as a senator and believes more community-supported independents will have a chance in future elections. Pocock also expressed concerns about changes to electoral reform that may disadvantage new candidates. The Albanese government in Australia plans to reduce the patient co-payment for subsidised medicines. As part of a campaign strategy ahead of the May federal election, the cost would decrease from $31.60 to $25. This will help around 20 million Australians who currently do not qualify for concession prices. By reducing this cost, the government aims to address healthcare concerns as a major election issue. Pope Francis has stopped using mechanical ventilation at night as he recovers from pneumonia. The Vatican reported that his condition is improving after nearly five weeks in the hospital. While he no longer uses a breathing mask, he continues to receive oxygen through a small hose. The pope has been stable for two weeks, but no discharge date has been announced. He has a history of lung issues, which require ongoing medical attention.
