Australian sex offender jailed in Dublin for deception
An Australian man, Gabriel Hyland, has been sentenced to an additional 10 months in prison for failing to inform police about his address in Dublin. The 55-year-old sex offender was already serving a 10-month sentence for similar violations. Hyland was found guilty of two counts under the Sex Offenders Act. He previously had a conviction from a Crown Court in Melbourne, Australia. During the court hearing, he repeatedly interrupted Judge John Hughes and expressed anger towards the police officers present. Despite claiming he had never committed a crime in Ireland, Hyland's behavior led to him being removed from the courtroom multiple times. He insisted on representing himself and made a number of loud comments instead of presenting a defense. The police testified that Hyland had misled them about his living arrangements. He initially reported staying at a hostel, but later checks revealed he had been absent from there for months. Hyland has a record of 11 prior convictions in Ireland, including similar offenses related to the Sex Offenders Act.
