Autorickshaw driver arrested for impersonating police, robbing couples
The Jayanagar police arrested an autorickshaw driver named Asif for pretending to be a police officer and stealing from couples. He lived in R.T. Nagar and targeted couples sitting in parks or cars. On March 5, a couple parked in Jayanagar became his victim. Asif knocked on their car window and, after they responded, he threatened them and stole their valuables. The couple later reported the incident to the police. Using technical evidence, police tracked down Asif. He is believed to be involved in at least 19 similar robberies. Police also recovered about 80 grams of gold jewelry from him. Deputy Commissioner Lokesh B. Jagalasar urged others who may have been targeted to come forward and report their experiences.
