Avonte Maddox, a former defensive back at Pitt, has signed with the Detroit Lions for the upcoming NFL season. Maddox, who is 28 years old, is originally from Detroit, Michigan. He spent the last seven years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles drafted Maddox in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He played a key role in the team's secondary and was part of the Super Bowl-winning team in 2025. Last season, Maddox recorded 19 tackles and defended five passes in 17 games. His new contract with the Lions is for one year. This move allows him to play in his hometown and bring experience to the Lions' defense.
