Axel Vervoordt renovates Munich's Bayerischer Hof Hotel
Axel Vervoordt, a well-known interior designer, is working on a special project at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel in Munich. He usually does not take on hotel work, but he made an exception for his friend, Innegrit Volkhardt, the hotel's managing director. The penthouse he's renovating features an aesthetic inspired by wabi-sabi, focusing on natural materials and the beauty of imperfection. The Bayerischer Hof Hotel has a long history, welcoming celebrities, politicians, and academics since 1841. Famous guests have included Michael Jackson, Queen Elizabeth II, and Albert Einstein. Vervoordt has been involved with the hotel for 15 years, creating modern spaces among its grand architecture. Recently, he completed renovations on several suites and event spaces. Vervoordt emphasizes using authentic materials like antique wood. He believes that luxury lies in real, timeless items rather than shiny or flashy decor. Volkhardt appreciates his vision and says that these updated rooms have drawn a lot of positive attention. She points out that while some guests initially prefer traditional luxury, many have come to appreciate the tranquility of Vervoordt’s designs. Both Vervoordt and Volkhardt share a love for horses and the outdoors. Their collaboration is a blend of history and modernity, aiming to provide guests with a unique experience. While they both value service, they have different opinions on what makes a hotel special. For Volkhardt, it's the people, while Vervoordt believes it’s all about the quality of the rooms. They continue to work together to develop more thoughtfully designed spaces in the hotel.
