Azzi Fudd urges UConn coach to push her harder
UConn star guard Azzi Fudd enjoyed a great performance in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, leading her team with 27 points in a big win over Arkansas State. She also set personal bests with seven assists and tied her career highs in steals and blocks. However, her coach, Geno Auriemma, pointed out that she only had one rebound. Auriemma is known for his tough coaching style but has been gentler with Fudd, who is hard on herself. He often recognizes that she doesn't need much correction on the court. Recently, Fudd asked Auriemma to be tougher on her, saying she could handle more pressure. Fudd explained that she appreciates Auriemma's coaching style but felt she needed "tough love" to improve. Even though some may think Auriemma’s approach hasn’t changed much, Fudd's mindset has shifted since last year’s disappointing tournament performance. Auriemma is focusing on Fudd's rebounding skills as they prepare for the tournament. While her scoring is impressive, he emphasizes that rebounding can be crucial in close games. Fudd knows she must work on this area to help her team succeed in March Madness.
