Bail extended for suspect in farmer's shooting death

Police have updated the investigation into the death of Thomas Olverson, a farmer who was shot and killed last year. The 75-year-old was found dead on his farm, Marsh Hey Farm, in Scarisbrick, Lancashire, on July 25, 2024. When authorities arrived at the scene, Mr. Olverson was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound. A 29-year-old man from Scarisbrick, who was known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of murder. Initially, he was released on bail, which was extended multiple times. The latest extension is in effect as the investigation continues. Neighbors expressed their shock over the incident. One resident recalled seeing a heavy police presence at the farm shortly after the shooting. He described the couple who lived there as private, typical farmers who kept to themselves. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Fallows stated that the investigation is ongoing. He reassured the community that this appears to be an isolated incident involving known individuals. Police are seeking information from the public. They encourage anyone who was in the Pinfold Lane area between 12 pm and 5:30 pm on the day of the shooting to contact them, particularly if they have relevant dashcam footage.
