Balatro 1.1 update timing remains unclear, says publisher
During the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Wout van Halderen, a director at Playstack, discussed the upcoming update for the game Balatro. He mentioned that details about the update, called Balatro 1.1, are closely guarded by the developer, LocalThunk. Van Halderen joked that LocalThunk would likely surprise everyone by releasing the update without any prior notice. He emphasized that LocalThunk tends to keep information private and does not share many details with Playstack during development. The 1.1 update is expected to bring new jokers, which are characters in the game, as well as revise an existing joker that was previously confusing. Van Halderen noted that Balatro was designed to be a unique project after a friend's long gaming session with it. In a light-hearted moment, he recalled that Balatro was initially intended to have 120 jokers, but a miscommunication in a meeting led to the creation of 30 additional jokers. He laughed about possibly suggesting to LocalThunk to aim for even more jokers, like 200. Despite the uncertainty about the exact release date, Balatro 1.1 is planned for launch later this year. Van Halderen affirmed that LocalThunk prioritizes quality over speed in their work, hinting at exciting new content to come.
