Balatro's major update scheduled for 2025
Balatro, a poker roguelike game, is set to receive its first major gameplay update in 2025. There had been concerns about the update's progress, but recent comments from the game's publisher, Playstack, confirmed that the plans remain on track. Wout van Halderen from Playstack stated that the update will be released when it is ready. He emphasized the importance of quality over speed, saying it must be good before it is fast. He reiterated that the next update is still expected in 2025. In an earlier interview, developer LocalThunk described the update as a "1.1" patch. It will include changes to the Matador Joker and adjustments to the blue stake. However, he did not share specific details to allow flexibility in development. LocalThunk has also opened up about the stresses of indie game development. He shared how the process affected his physical and mental health. Despite his personal doubts about the game's ratings, which he believes should not exceed 8 out of 10, Balatro has received positive reviews. After taking a break from the game for three months, LocalThunk returned to work on Balatro, mainly out of boredom. He mentioned that he couldn't play other games due to internet issues, leading him to pick up development again.
