Three universities in Balochistan have closed their campuses and moved classes online due to security concerns. The affected institutions are the University of Balochistan, Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University, and the University of Turbat. The closure follows a series of violent incidents, including a recent hijacking of the Jaffar Express train that resulted in 26 fatalities. Since that attack, Balochistan has experienced multiple threats and incidents of violence. University administrations decided to shift to virtual learning after consulting with academic leaders. Notifications from the universities indicated the transition to online classes would last until further notice. Faculty members have been instructed on how to use digital resources for teaching. Zahoor Ahmad Bazai, Vice Chancellor of the University of Balochistan, explained that some students were unable to reach campus due to ongoing protests that blocked highways. He mentioned that students facing internet access issues would receive some accommodations. In addition, the University of Turbat addressed internal conflicts, including a blockade by students protesting against disciplinary decisions. The university called for these students to vacate their hostel rooms to ensure safety and security on campus. Transport services at the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences have also been suspended. Further decisions regarding academic activities are expected soon as exams are ongoing.
