Bangalore Palace Amendment Bill passes with modifications
On Friday, the State legislature approved the Bangalore Palace (Utilisation and Regulation of Land) (Amendment) Bill, 2025. This bill includes changes to an earlier version that had already been approved by both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council. The Legislative Assembly voted on the bill on March 6, and the Legislative Council followed on March 10. The new bill aims to give the State government more authority over how much land can be taken from Bangalore Palace for infrastructure projects and how compensation is handled. This action comes after the Supreme Court ordered the government to compensate the former Mysuru royal family with Transfer of Development Rights worth ₹3,400 crore for land near the Bangalore Palace. Amendments were made based on observations from the Supreme Court the day before the bill was passed. The legislature adopted three suggested changes from legal advocates related to these recent court developments. Both Houses approved the revised bill once again.
