Bangladesh government penalizes diplomat for criticism
The interim government of Bangladesh, led by Muhammad Yunus, has taken action against diplomat Mohammad Harun Al Rashid for criticizing the regime. Rashid, who served as ambassador to Morocco, was accused of violating discipline and misrepresenting the government. Rashid had posted on social media about the chaos in Bangladesh, stating that many people face dire choices under Yunus's rule. The government has canceled his passport and ordered him to return to Bangladesh after he refused previous requests. In a separate development, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited Bangladesh to address the Rohingya refugee crisis and acknowledged the country's reform efforts. He emphasized the need for global support for the displaced Rohingya population.
