Barcelona targets right back for 2025/26 season
Barcelona is planning improvements for the 2025/26 season as they aim to enhance their squad, particularly at right back. While the team is focused on current competitions, including La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League, Sporting Director Deco is already discussing transfer targets with coach Hansi Flick. Jules Kounde has performed well as a right back but the club wants more specialized support for him. Kounde is expected to remain the first choice at right back and is nearing a contract extension. Barcelona is also preparing for different scenarios, including the possibility of Kounde returning to his preferred center back position. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona is committed to signing another right back, with discussions already underway with several candidates. Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Ratiu is currently a top target after impressing this season. However, Rayo Vallecano has noted interest from major clubs and is prepared to ask for at least €25 million, which is beyond Barcelona's current budget for a backup player. Rayo Vallecano is unwilling to wait for Barcelona's decision and has received interest from Premier League clubs like Tottenham and Manchester City, who may also pursue Ratiu if their own players leave this summer.
