B.C. storms bring heavy rain and alpine snow
British Columbia (B.C.) is preparing for another round of storms. The next system is expected to hit on Thursday, bringing heavy rain, mountain snow, and possible thunderstorms. Coastal B.C. experienced a wet day on Wednesday, and more rain is on the way. Multiple storm systems will affect the region through the weekend. On Thursday and Friday, areas along the coast and the Interior may see thunderstorms. The heavy rainfall raises concerns about localized flooding and avalanches. Travel delays are likely due to the weather. High winds will also accompany the storms, so it’s important to check highway conditions before traveling. Rainfall totals could reach 30-50 millimeters in the Lower Mainland and over 100 millimeters on Vancouver Island. The freezing level is forecasted to stay around 1000 meters, leading to significant snowfall in the mountains, with accumulations of 50-75 centimeters expected. After a brief pause on Saturday, more precipitation will return on Sunday. An atmospheric river could arrive on Monday, raising flood risks with potential snowmelt. Temperatures are expected to warm up next week, which may add to these concerns.
