"Beaches" musical pre-Broadway tour to start in 2026

A new musical based on the story of "Beaches" will go on a pre-Broadway national tour starting in the fall of 2026. This musical is based on a novel by Iris Rainer Dart, which became a popular movie in 1988 starring Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey. The musical features music by Mike Stoller and lyrics and book by Iris Rainer Dart and Thom Thomas. The musical had its first performance in Calgary last year. The cast included Jessica Vosk as Cee Cee and Kelli Barrett as Bertie. The production team for the upcoming tour will be announced later. Producer Jennifer Maloney-Prezioso expressed excitement about bringing the musical to audiences across the country. She said it is an honor to share this story about friendship. The musical showcases the 30-year relationship between Cee Cee and Bertie, highlighting their laughter, sorrow, and love through various challenges. The Calgary premiere included impressive designs for scenery, costumes, lighting, sound, and projections. Multiple producers are behind the project, including Jennifer Maloney-Prezioso and others from various entertainment companies. Earlier versions of the musical were staged in 2014 and 2015, but this new adaptation promises to bring a fresh perspective.
