Bears aim to strengthen running game with new coach
Ben Johnson is the new head coach of the Chicago Bears, and he aims to strengthen the team's running game. Previously, he was known for his effective run strategies while coaching the Detroit Lions. D'Andre Swift is currently expected to be the main running back for the Bears. He has played under Johnson before and has shown promise. However, for him to be a true star in 2025, he needs to improve on his performance from last season. Before re-signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bears attempted to sign running back Kareem Hunt. Eric Bieniemy, who coached Hunt while at Kansas City, is now the Bears' running backs coach. The Bears eventually decided to bring back Travis Homer instead. Kareem Hunt had a successful start to his NFL career. He gained over 1,300 rushing yards in his rookie year and made the Pro Bowl. Although he faced controversy in 2018 and was released by the Chiefs, he later excelled with the Cleveland Browns. He returned to the Chiefs last season and rushed for 728 yards. The Bears' running back situation remains uncertain. Swift had decent production last season, but his average yards per game was lower than expected. The only other notable running back on the team is Roschon Johnson, who had limited rushing yards but performed well in short-yard situations. The Bears are still searching for talent in the running back position, especially after their interest in Hunt. There is speculation that they may look to the NFL Draft or free agency for additional players. A strong running game is crucial for quarterback Caleb Williams to succeed in the new season.
