Bears sign Devin Duvernay to boost receiving corps
The Chicago Bears have announced the signing of wide receiver Devin Duvernay to a one-year contract. Duvernay, who has played for the Baltimore Ravens and most recently with the Jacksonville Jaguars, is expected to enhance the Bears' receiving options. He joins a lineup that includes DJ Moore and Rome Odunze, along with veteran Olamide Zaccheaus. Duvernay was a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft after a successful college career at the University of Texas. He finished with 176 receptions and over 2,400 receiving yards in college. His performance led to significant recognition, including First-Team All-Big 12 honors in 2019. In the NFL, Duvernay has made a name for himself as a top return specialist. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2022, and he received First-Team All-Pro honors in 2021. This was due to his exceptional skills in returning kicks and punts. A notable moment in Duvernay's career is his first touchdown, which came on a 93-yard kickoff return. He also excelled in return statistics during his All-Pro season in 2021, ranking in the Top 10 for both kickoff and punt return yardage. With Duvernay's arrival, the Bears aim to strengthen their special teams unit. His signing may reduce opportunities for fellow player Tyler Scott as the team looks to optimize its roster.
