Bears trade for All-Pro lineman Joe Thuney
The Chicago Bears are focusing on improving their team after a difficult season. They finished last in the NFC North with a record of 5-12 in 2024. The Bears believe they have found their quarterback of the future in Caleb Williams. However, he faced a lot of pressure last season, being sacked a league-high 68 times. To help protect Williams, the Bears made a significant trade with the Kansas City Chiefs. They acquired All-Pro offensive lineman Joe Thuney. This move has been described as the Bears' best offseason decision by several analysts. Over his nine seasons in the NFL, Thuney has played for top quarterbacks like Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. Thuney has been recognized for his talent, making the Pro Bowl for the last three years and earning first-team All-Pro honors in the past two. Last season, he played over 1,100 snaps and did not allow any sacks. He also ranked fifth in pass-blocking among all guards. In addition to the Thuney trade, the Bears have made other positive changes, including hiring head coach Ben Johnson. However, adding Thuney is viewed as the most impactful move for the team, costing only a Day 3 draft pick.
