Beavercreek gas station leaks 700 gallons of diesel
A gas station in Beavercreek experienced a major diesel leak that was first discovered nearly three months ago. The leak occurred at a Shell gas station located at the intersection of N Fairfield Road and Dayton-Xenia Road. The incident was reported on December 18 after a local resident noticed a sheen on the waters of Little Beaver Creek. Following this report, the State Fire Marshal's Bureau and the Ohio EPA launched an investigation. The gas station was closed the next day to address the situation. Investigators found that about 700 gallons of diesel fuel had leaked from the underground storage tanks at the gas station. To prevent further environmental contamination, the tanks have been emptied and removed. The city officials noted that domestic wells are unlikely to be affected due to the distance and amount of leakage. As a safety measure, the Ohio EPA has placed booms in the area to filter the water. The gas station remains closed as the cleanup continues.
