Belgian Malinois bites binman in Workington incident
A binman was attacked by a rescue dog while collecting rubbish on New Year's Eve in Workington, England. The incident involved a Belgian Malinois named Kenya, owned by Jack Marr, who was walking the dog on a lead when the attack occurred. During the incident, the dog bit the binman's arm and pulled him to the ground. Video footage showed Kenya lunging at the worker after Marr instructed her to "watch him." The binman was able to escape after his colleague shouted for him to kick the dog. He later reported bite marks were visible on his arm, although his work clothes prevented serious injury. Marr defended his dog, stating that Kenya was "protective" and that he had rescued her the previous year. He admitted that he was not paying full attention when the binman approached, leading to the dog's sudden reaction. Marr claimed that the dog generally behaves well but may snap when on a lead. In court, Marr pleaded guilty to having a dog dangerously out of control and was fined £200. He was also ordered to pay additional costs and compensation to the victim. A destruction order for Kenya was issued as the dog has been kept in kennels since the incident. Marr’s lawyer argued that it was an unfortunate situation for both the dog and its owner.
