Belle the dog returned to shelter for being 'too big'
A black Labrador mix named Belle was returned to an animal shelter by her previous owners because they claimed she was "too big." Belle was initially fostered by Allison Hangvilay, who had hoped her forever family would love her. However, almost two years later, Hangvilay received news that Belle was back at the shelter. Upon returning Belle, the owners mistreated her, according to shelter staff. They said Belle had been kept outside and described her as too large for their home. A volunteer recognized Belle’s old ID number from when she was fostered by Hangvilay. They reached out to inform her that Belle was struggling in the shelter and at risk of being euthanized. Hangvilay immediately took action to bring Belle back into her care. She shared a video on TikTok showing Belle's sadness when she was first picked up. With time and love, Belle began to trust people again. She is now more confident and enjoys being around other dogs, revealing a playful side. Belle is currently available for adoption through the We're OK Foundation. Despite not receiving much interest yet, Hangvilay remains hopeful for the right family to find her. Many viewers on TikTok praised Hangvilay for her support of Belle and acknowledged the positive change in the dog’s demeanor.
