Ben Duckett confident England will beat India
England opener Ben Duckett expressed confidence that his team can defeat India in their upcoming Test series. Duckett believes England "should" win, as they prepare for the five-match series scheduled for June 2025. India's head coach Gautam Gambhir has faced criticism but recently led the team to a Champions Trophy victory in Dubai. However, he is still looking to prove himself in Test cricket, especially in England, where India has historically struggled. India has toured England 19 times since 1932, winning only three series, with the last victory occurring in 2007. In 2021, India had a 2-1 lead in the series, but the final match was affected by a Covid outbreak. It was rescheduled, and England won, denying India their first series win in the country since 2007. Duckett predicts a similar outcome in 2025, noting the challenges of playing India at home versus away. Duckett also commented on facing Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. He said he is no longer surprised by Bumrah's style, having faced him previously in a five-Test series, where he managed to score runs against him. Duckett feels prepared for the challenge and believes he can score runs if he survives the initial bowling spells. The upcoming series will be important as it marks the start of the 2025/27 World Test Championship cycle. The matches will take place from June 20 to early August.
