Bengal seeks Slovak investment for economic cooperation

Kolkata: The Indian state of Bengal is looking for investments from Slovakia to improve economic relations. On Thursday, State Industry and Commerce Minister Shashi Panja met with Juraj Blanar, Slovakia's Foreign and European Affairs Minister, to discuss potential collaborations. The two sides identified several industries for partnership, including engineering, automobiles, leather, textiles, metallurgy, and green energy. Panja noted that both regions have shown interest in boosting their economic ties in recent years. Bengal exports many products, such as leather, sports gear, iron, and garments. The state also receives a good number of Slovak tourists. Panja expressed hope for the establishment of an honorary Slovak consulate in Kolkata to strengthen connections. Blanar mentioned that various Slovak companies are exploring joint ventures in India. He believes this visit will further enhance cooperation. Notable sectors include defence, cybersecurity, and real estate. Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Group and consul general of Slovakia in Kolkata, stated that Bengal is a key area for their investments. He confirmed that part of a 500 million euro investment will go to projects in Bengal.
