Bengaluru cab drivers boycott airport trips over fares
Cab drivers in Bengaluru plan to boycott trips to the airport. The Karnataka App-Based Workers Union (KAWU) is leading this effort against companies like Ola, Uber, and Rapido. The union says that low fares set by these companies are harming drivers' earnings. KAWU argues that they have asked the State government and the Transport Department for fair pricing, but no action has been taken. The union demands that a uniform fare structure be established to support drivers' livelihoods. Inayath Ali, the president of KAWU, stated that low fares undermine the drivers' time and effort. He emphasized that the current fare system is exploitative and compromises their earnings. The campaign aims to stop airport trips until fares are made fair and sustainable. It also seeks to raise awareness among passengers about the difficulties faced by gig workers and calls for government regulation of pricing policies.
