Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway fully operational by June 2026
The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is now expected to be fully operational by June 2026, delayed from the initial August 2025 target. Currently, 71 km of the 262-km route is completed, with ongoing construction in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The Karnataka section became informally accessible in December 2024. The expressway aims to improve travel efficiency between the two cities, reducing travel time and fuel consumption compared to the existing route. A ban on two-wheelers was imposed on March 3, following a fatal accident. Officials advise against using the unfinished sections of the expressway while construction continues.
