Bengaluru cuts water loss from leaks to 26.5%

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Bengaluru has significantly reduced water loss from leaks, dropping from 51% a decade ago to 26.5% today. This improvement is due to the efforts of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, which began addressing the issue in 2013. The board's initiatives included upgrading old pipelines and tackling illegal connections. By 2017, water loss was reduced to 37%, saving 154 million liters per day. The ongoing efforts have saved 200 million liters daily. A new Rs 199-crore project has been approved to further reduce water loss in Central and East Bengaluru. The project aims to replace corroded pipelines and could lower losses to 10% in the targeted areas.
