Bengaluru man arrested for assaulting police at checkpoint
A man from Bengaluru has been arrested for trying to run over police officers during a vehicle check. The incident occurred on the night of March 3-4 in the Rajajinagar area. The suspect, Mahadevaswamy M alias Ramachari, is 33 years old and runs a waste paper shop. A police team was inspecting vehicles at a checkpoint when he arrived at the site in a Tata Altroz. The officers had set up barricades and were signaling drivers to stop. Instead of slowing down, Mahadevaswamy sped through the checkpoint. He allegedly aimed his car at two constables, Karthik UK and Dhareppa Tonne. The whole event was recorded by CCTV cameras. After driving about 200 meters, he stopped but then drove into the officers’ patrol bike when they approached him. This caused injuries to the officers before he fled the scene. The Magadi Road police later tracked down Mahadevaswamy and arrested him. He faces multiple charges, including attempt to murder and causing injury to public servants. Police have also seized his vehicle for further investigation.
