Residents of Bengaluru can now book water tankers using their phones. This new service will start soon and is aimed at helping people who do not have piped water. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is introducing a mobile application for this purpose. The app will let users book water tanks at fixed prices, avoiding issues with middlemen and overcharging. It will make sure that people have access to safe Cauvery water from certified sources. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will launch the pilot project by the end of March. It will focus first on areas in eastern Bengaluru that depend on private water tankers. With this system, residents can easily book a tanker through a web link on the BWSSB website, pay online, and receive their water within a set time. Each tanker will have GPS for tracking. To ensure proper delivery, users will need to provide a unique code when their water arrives. The BWSSB has hired 200 tankers that can carry either 6,000 or 12,000 litres of water. These tankers will follow a "no profit, no loss" model, and their costs will be fixed to avoid any high charges. Unlike private tankers, these will deliver treated Cauvery water from 100 approved points in the city. The project will start with 50 water points and expand over time. Residents will need to book their water delivery 24 hours in advance. Deliveries will take place daily between 6 am and 10 pm.
