Bengaluru's Namma Metro plans new parking and shopping hub
Bengaluru's Namma Metro is planning to build a new parking and shopping hub near the KR Puram metro station. This will be part of an integrated development project. The new hub will feature an 11-storey building with a ground floor and two basement levels. It will be located just 50 meters from the upcoming interchange station that connects the Purple and Blue metro lines. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) owns the land for this project. The area, about 1.66 acres, is situated near Old Madras Road and the Outer Ring Road in east Bengaluru. The two basement levels will provide parking, while the upper floors will host commercial spaces, such as offices, retail shops, and shopping centers. According to Raghavendra Rao, BMRCL’s Deputy Chief Engineer, the project will be developed through a public-private partnership for 30 years. Completion is expected by 2027, coinciding with the opening of the Blue Line, which runs to the airport. Once completed, the KR Puram facility will be the second largest parking hub. Currently, Majestic station accommodates 260 two-wheelers and 36 cars. KR Puram can hold 530 two-wheelers but has no car parking. The new developments will significantly increase parking availability, allowing KR Puram to handle 1,742 two-wheelers and 556 cars. Meanwhile, Majestic is set to expand to 4,000 two-wheelers and 1,000 cars.
