Berea cannabis dispensary set to open in May

The Berea Planning Commission has given approval for The Landing cannabis dispensary to open in May. The dispensary will be located at 1085 W. Bagley Road and will offer both medical and recreational cannabis. Drew Finkes, the real estate development manager for the company, shared that the store is set to open in early May after a state inspection. The Landing requested a larger sign because it will occupy three units in the building, totaling 6,000 square feet. Initially, the dispensary will use only two of those units. Finkes mentioned that they have space to expand if needed. This location will be the sixth for The Landing, with other dispensaries in Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati. The sign the dispensary requested will simply include its name, measuring 3.48 feet high and 15.46 feet wide, which exceeds the city's zoning limit for display area. The Backer zoning code restricts sign display area to 30 square feet, meaning The Landing needed a variance of 23.8 square feet. The sign will not be illuminated, as required by law. Inside the dispensary, a concierge will assist customers by guiding them to the appropriate area for medical or personal use. Staff members will be available to explain the products that are offered. Finkes emphasized the importance of being a good neighbor. In July 2024, the City Council rezoned a section of Bagley Road for cannabis dispensaries. An ordinance allows for one dispensary in the area, permitting medical and recreational sales but prohibiting commercial cultivation and processing.
