Bhubaneswar plans commercial towers near new railway station
Bhubaneswar is set to see major changes at its New railway station. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced plans to build commercial high-rise towers at the site. This project is part of a larger effort to improve the station's infrastructure and is estimated to cost around Rs 250 crore. The plans were discussed in a recent meeting between railway officials and the state government. An ECoR spokesperson called the project "futuristic," noting the station's potential for growth. Currently, the station has seven platforms but lacks a wide road to it, which limits train services. To address this, the state government has given initial approval for a new 100-foot wide road connecting Raghunathpur to the station. This road will facilitate train operations and encourage commercial development. The aim is to create about 10 lakh square feet of business space, including offices and shopping malls. The Bhubaneswar New station, located 17 km from Cuttack and 12 km from Bhubaneswar, could handle significantly more traffic in the future. Currently, it sees around 18,000 passengers daily, but improvements could increase that number substantially. With upgrades, the station could eventually accommodate up to 4 lakh passengers per day.
