Bicol schools report P299 million in damage from Severe Tropical Storm Kristine

Schools in the Bicol region of the Philippines reported damages totaling at least P299.67 million after Severe Tropical Storm Kristine struck last month. The Department of Education noted that 520 schools were affected by flooding and landslides. The storm destroyed 816 classrooms and caused major damage to 1,250 others. In response, the Department of Education allocated P102.63 million for cleanup, repairs, and temporary facilities to aid recovery efforts. While most public schools have resumed classes, some remain closed due to extensive damage. In Camarines Sur, five schools in Iriga City are still not ready to reopen, and classes in 43 schools in Naga City have been delayed until November 11.
