Biden administration extends temporary protections for nearly 1 million immigrants
The Biden administration has extended temporary protections for nearly 1 million immigrants from Venezuela, El Salvador, Ukraine, and Sudan. This 18-month extension allows eligible individuals to maintain their status and work authorization through October 2026. About 600,000 Venezuelans, 232,000 Salvadorans, 104,000 Ukrainians, and 1,900 Sudanese are eligible to re-register for Temporary Protected Status. The extension is based on ongoing crises in their home countries. New applicants are not eligible for these protections. The incoming Trump administration could revoke the extension but must provide at least 60 days' notice before doing so.
