Biden authorizes Ukraine to use US missiles against targets in Russia
U.S. President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to use American missiles against targets in Russia, marking a significant shift in U.S. policy. This decision follows a series of intense Russian attacks on Ukraine, which included drone and missile strikes on civilian infrastructure. Previously, U.S. weapons were restricted to short-range use within Ukraine. The new policy allows Ukraine to deploy the MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile System, capable of striking targets nearly 200 miles away, enhancing Ukraine's defense capabilities amid escalating threats from Russian and North Korean forces. The conflict, which began with Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014, has intensified since the full-scale invasion in February 2022. The war has resulted in millions of displaced Ukrainians and significant casualties, with over 1 million estimated dead.
