Biden calls for unity and peaceful transition after Trump's election win

dawn.com November 7, 2024, 07:01 PM UTC

President Joe Biden called for unity and a peaceful transition of power following Donald Trump's election victory over Kamala Harris. In a speech from the White House, Biden emphasized the need to lower political tensions and acknowledged the election's legitimacy.

Biden congratulated Trump and assured him of an orderly transition on January 20. This marks a significant contrast to Trump's previous refusal to accept his 2020 defeat, which led to the January 6 Capitol riot.

Trump is now forming his transition team and is expected to reverse many of Biden's policies. His victory makes him the oldest and first convicted felon elected as U.S. president.
