Biden criticizes Trump's tariff threat against Canada and Mexico as counterproductive
President Biden criticized President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on Canada and Mexico, calling them “counterproductive.” Biden emphasized the importance of maintaining strong relationships with these neighboring countries, especially regarding issues like fentanyl and illegal immigration. Trump announced a potential 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, aiming to address drug trafficking and immigration. He claimed to have had a productive conversation with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum about cooperation on these issues. Fentanyl deaths have significantly impacted the U.S., with over 223,000 fatalities during Biden's presidency. While fentanyl-related deaths have slightly decreased this year, illegal immigration has also declined after reaching record highs last December.
