Biden extends Temporary Protected Status for 1 million immigrants for 18 months
The Biden administration has extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nearly 1 million immigrants from El Salvador, Sudan, Ukraine, and Venezuela for an additional 18 months. This extension allows them to stay legally in the U.S. until at least 2026. The decision affects 232,000 Salvadorans, 1,900 Sudanese, 600,000 Venezuelans, and 103,700 Ukrainians. The extension is based on ongoing humanitarian crises in these countries, including political instability and environmental issues. The future of TPS may change under the incoming Trump administration, which previously sought to limit the program. Currently, about 1 million immigrants from 17 countries benefit from TPS.
