Biden warns of ISIS resurgence following Syrian coup as Assad flees Damascus
President Joe Biden warned that the recent coup in Syria could allow ISIS to regain strength. Rebels overthrew President Bashar al-Assad, who fled Damascus, following a major offensive that began on November 27. The rebel group, Operation Deterrence of Aggression, is led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and includes various Syrian opposition factions. They have quickly taken control of key cities, including Aleppo and now Damascus. Biden stated that the U.S. will maintain its mission against ISIS, including airstrikes on their camps. He plans to consult with regional leaders and send officials to address the situation.
