Bihar bans heavy vehicles from stopping on bridges

The government of Bihar has banned heavy vehicles from stopping on bridges. This decision aims to protect the quality of the bridges and reduce traffic jams. Road construction minister Nitin Nabin made the announcement on Wednesday. He emphasized the importance of following this directive and stated that officials would ensure compliance. Nabin discussed ongoing road and bridge projects in the state during a meeting. He noted that the government is focused on overall development, including building new roads and expanding existing ones. The minister mentioned that new guidelines have been issued to address traffic issues in Bihta, where work on a bypass is underway. Additionally, Nabin reported that the expansion of the Bihta intersection has been completed, helping to ease congestion. Work to widen the stretch between the Bihta intersection and Pareb is also in progress. To improve traffic flow, the government is constructing service roads and has installed crash barriers along the existing roads. The minister highlighted that proper diversions and information boards have been set up following national standards. Officials have also been instructed to clear encroachments at Bihta Chowk, where traffic jams are frequently reviewed. A technical study is being conducted to find an alternative route that connects nearby highways.
