Biliran province declared in state of calamity due to bridge capacity issues
Biliran province has been declared in a state of calamity due to the limited capacity of Biliran Bridge, which is the only connection to mainland Leyte. Heavy vehicles are now banned from using the bridge, disrupting the transport of essential goods. Governor Gerard Espina signed the declaration to address economic and logistical challenges. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recommended this action after assessing the situation. Since December 23, heavy vehicles have been prohibited from crossing the bridge, which has shown signs of swaying. Repairs are underway, and barge transport is being considered to manage cargo deliveries while the bridge is being fixed.
