Billy Monger is participating in Ironman for charity
Billy Monger is a notable British race car driver known for his remarkable recovery from a serious accident. He started racing at the young age of three and quickly rose to fame, achieving podium finishes in his first season in the Formula 4 championship in 2016. However, tragedy struck in April 2017 when he crashed into a stationary vehicle, resulting in the amputation of both his legs. Following his accident, Billy underwent multiple surgeries and spent over 90 minutes trapped in his car. He has expressed gratitude to the medical teams and his sister for their support during his recovery. Billy later adapted to racing by using a vehicle equipped with special modifications, allowing him to compete again. He made history in December 2017 by persuading the FIA to allow disabled drivers to compete in single-seater racing. Since then, he has participated in several races, including finishing third in the British F3 Championship in 2018 and winning a race in the Euroformula series in 2019. In addition to his racing career, Billy is also dedicated to charity work. He previously completed a challenging 140-mile journey for Comic Relief in 2021. Now, he is preparing for an even tougher challenge in 2025. This time, he will participate in an Ironman triathlon, which involves swimming, biking, and running a total of 140.6 miles. Billy has discussed the challenges he will face in this upcoming triathlon, emphasizing the harsh conditions of the race. His journey will be showcased in a BBC special called "Billy Monger: The Race Is On For Comic Relief," airing on March 19, 2025.
