Birsa Dasgupta's film Awporajita tackles sexual misconduct with Subhashree and Ushasi in lead roles
Director Birsa Dasgupta's new film, "Awporajita," focuses on sexual misconduct and the fight for justice. It stars Subhashree Ganguly as a criminal lawyer and Ushasi Ray as a struggling young woman. The film portrays the challenges faced by victims from various backgrounds. The idea for "Awporajita" originated in 2018, inspired by personal experiences and a lawyer friend. Dasgupta aims to address important social issues through cinema, dedicating the film to his daughters. In the film, Ganguly's character, Inaya, is a determined lawyer, while Ray's character, Kuhu, is a timid young woman facing hardships. Bidipta Chakraborty plays Suchandra, a singer and abuse survivor. This marks the first collaboration between Dasgupta and his wife in a film.
