BJP candidates in Maharashtra face one-year term
BJP candidates in the Maharashtra Legislative Council bypolls will serve only a one-year term, expiring on May 13, 2026. This is shorter than the terms of candidates from the NCP and Shiv Sena, who will serve until 2028 and 2030, respectively. The bypolls were triggered by the resignations of three BJP members after their Assembly election wins. The BJP has nominated Sandip Joshi, Dadarao Keche, and Sanjay Kenekar for the elections. Nomination scrutiny is set for March 18, with a withdrawal deadline on March 20. If no additional candidates are nominated, the election may proceed unopposed. Voting, if needed, will occur on March 27.
